AMD heading down a dark path.

July 15, 2008

With my recent discovery of Amd’s stock at an all time low of 4.56$ USD a share, i was flummoxed at how this could be! Then I was reminded of how “analysts” are the worst. These people, are the ones who pretty much dictate whether a company’s stock will rise or fall. As soon as some “analyst” lowered AMD’s target to 5$ instead of 8$, AMD’s  stock fell dramatically. (which reminds me of the show Dilbert). This is as far as I know, please correct me if I am wrong. In addition, I am most likely over simplifying the problem; but thats not of your concern. After their +5bill usd acquisition of ATi, AMD has been heading down a dark path. Their Phenom processors turned out to be less than phenomenal, the major TLB fiasco, massive layoffs and debt, their future looks exceptionally grim. Hector Ruiz also seems to be a very incapable CEO, he has been talking about Asset Light restructuring for awhile now, and none of the investors have yet to see the fruit of his work. I am very disappointed at the moment. Even with AMD’s win in the graphics segment this round, their stocks have plummeted nevertheless. Being the fanboy that i am, AMD SHALL LIVE ON! IT MUST! or we are all doomed to live with overpriced and underwhelming products from nV and intel. Amd must stay there to give its competition a kick in the groin when they start to slack off. AMD must live on!!!!! I can only hope that AMD finds the light at the end of the tunnel and perhaps dig itself out of its slowly filling grave.

  1. LOL im glad u realize how shitty of a situation AMD is in. Even with ATI winning the GPU market this round, it matters little in the long run since dedicated GPUs are not the future of PC gaming. That lies in better integration of GPU and CPU, which AMD is missing out on.

  2. AMD is working on that also with AMD Fusion. Sounds like an awesome name :) . I think AMD is better positioned with fusion that intel or nvidia because they dont only have gpu or cpu, but not both. AMD has expertise in both fields and if they play their cards correctly, they might have a win with fusion (i can only pray). They are seriously boned though. To compete they must spend more on R&D but given the current situation, they are CUTTING back their R&D because of massive debt. They are pretty much circling the drain at this moment. Seems pretty grim, but im pretty sure AMD will get out of this ditch its in and be able to compete again in a few years or so. After it gets all this shit sorted out.
